O Cinema is once again thrilled to host the 2025 Oscar Nominated Short Films program, a nationally touring celebration of the year’s finest short films. Featuring the Animated, Documentary, and Live Action nominees from this year’s Academy Awards, this special showcase offers an extraordinary chance to experience a diverse collection of global cinematic excellence. Presented in partnership with ShortsTV and Magnolia Pictures, this is your golden opportunity to catch the year’s most acclaimed short films!
Magic Candies (Directed by Daisuke Nishio / 2024 / Japan / in Japanese with English subtitles / 21 mins) A lonely boy named Dong-Dong buys a bag of colorful candies that allow him to share unexpected conversations with people, animals and objects – with each candy, he discovers new voice and perspectives, including his own.
In the Shadow of the Cypress (Directed by Hossein Molayemi & Shirin Sohani / 2023 / Iran / 20 mins) Living in a house by the sea with his daughter, a former captain who has post-traumatic stress disorder leads a tough and secluded life.
Yuck! (Directed by Loïc Espuche / 2024 / France / in French with English subtitles / 13 mins) Yuck. Couples kissing on the mouth are gross. Little Leo laughs at them, just like all the kids at summer camp. But he has a secret he won’t tell his friends: Leon desperately wants to give kissing a try. The following films include nudity, and may not be appropriate for audiences under 14 years old.
Wander to Wonder (Directed by Nina Gantz / 2023 / Netherlands-Belgium-France-UK / in English / 14 mins) In the 1980s, Mary, Billybud and Fumbleton starred in the children’s television program, Wander to Wonder. They are left alone in the studio after the show’s originator passed away.
Beautiful Men (Directed by Nicolas Keppens / 2023 / Belgium-France-Netherlands / in Flemish-Dutch-Turkish-English with English subtitles / 18 mins) The insecurities of three bald brothers intensify during their stay in an Istanbul hotel for hair transplants.
