Overview
In 1964, with the Cuban Missile Crisis fresh in viewers' minds, the Cold War at its frostiest, and the hydrogen bomb relatively new and frightening, Stanley Kubrick dared to make a film about what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button - and played the situation for laughs. Starring Peter Sellers (in multiple roles) and George C. Scott in career-defining roles.Dr. Strangelove's jet-black satire and a host of superb comic performances have kept the film fresh and entertaining. When a rogue order from a high ranking general launches an attack on the Soviet Union, everyone must ask themselves what comes next. Some sees this as an opportunity to do something about Communism in general and Russians in particular. However, the ante is upped considerably when the Soviets announce their latest innovation in weapons technology: a "Doomsday Machine" that will destroy the entire world if the Russians are attacked.DISCUSSIONMon, April 8th @ 9:30pm Working with & Learning From Kubrick: A Cnversation with Lisa LeoneBefore Stanley Kubrick officially started pre-production on Eyes Wide Shut, he turned to fellow Bronx native Lisa Leone to help him research images and props of New York City. What ensued was a four year relationship where Kubrick became Leone's mentor and she went on to serve as Set Decorator and 2nd unit director on what would be his last film. During this intimate and informal conversation, Leone will share her first hand experience working with Stanley Kubrick, telling us what she learned about the man, the filmmaker and cinema itself in the process.*Full list of Kubrick Retrospective screenings & events available here
