Overview

FILM GATE is an interactive media festival and new technology trade show for independent filmmakers and production companies. From February 1 – 3, we will celebrate visual story tellers and the industries that support them through interactive screenings, workshops, master classes, director talks and music.

with David Bercuson, a Miami attorney who has distinguished himself by devoting his practice to entertainment law. He has extensive and diverse experience and is a tenacious and successful advocate in the representation of recording artists, record labels, music producers, music publishers, composers, managers, and television producers, production companies and television talent in the acquisition, negotiation and renegotiation of significant industry agreements. He also handles the business and legal affairs for major and independent record companies. For more than twenty (20) years Bercuson has been adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law as well as an instructor on entertainment contracts at Florida International University.

In this hands on workshop, accomplished actor/director Ika Santamaria, will teach specific techniques to directors and actors, by placing you in a scene and coaching you through it.

Mark Moormann is a Florida-based filmmaker with director and director of photography credits on documentaries, commercials, music videos and television shows. His documentary work includes the Grammy-nominated TOM DOWD & THE LANGUAGE OF MUSIC, BLINDSIDED (featured on HBO) and FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, Audience Award winner at the 2010 SXSW Film Festival and showcased on PBS' Independent Lens Series.

4:00-5:00pm - WILD SOUND

with Juan Carlos Zaldivar and Mutness Studios

What not to do when recording sound. What about your sound design? Even how to include sound in your transmedia project? This comprehensive sound class is for every experience and aspiring director. Cuban-born, Zaldívar lives and works in the United States. He completed both his BFA and a Masters of Fine Arts at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he has also taught as an adjunct faculty. Zaldívar started his film career as a sound editor and designer, his work can be heard in Academy Nominated films such as Ang Lee's "Sense and Sensibility", in Nanette Burstein and Bret Morgan's "On the ropes" and on HBO’s America Undercover, for which he garnered an Emmy nomination. He has served as a Juror for several mayor film festivals including the Sundance International Film Festival. He presently serves on the board of directors for NALIP (The National Association of Latino Independent Producers). He is a Sundance Film Institute Fellow. He teaches at Miami International University’s Art Institute.

with Canadian Transmedia producer Erica Hargreave

How to produce Transmedia projects. The Sundance Lab, the Lincoln Center, Tribeca, all of Canada are comissioning pretty much only Transmedia projects, but you don't know what this buzz world even means. This is the class for you. Erica Hargreave, Founder and Creative Head of Ahimsa Media, is a forward thinker. Her early integration into the digital space and ability to develop stories interactively, led to the creation of one of the first digital / transmedia storytelling companies. They have created digital characters for the non-profit and education sector, been the digital voice behind films and TV Series, taught at a number of post-secondary institutions, and most recently launched a new transmedia travel property, Roamancing.
