Overview

O Cinema & the Knight Foundation partner to offer a FREE virtual screening of Magnolia Pictures' I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO.

WE HAVE EXTENDED THE VIEWING OPPORTUNITY!YOU NOW HAVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT (EST) / 9PM (PST) THIS EVENING (June 8th) TO WATCH THE FILM.

We are at a unique crossroads in our country. We all find ourselves looking for a way to address social injustices and virulent racism in our society. As community-based organization, we have the opportunity to affect significant change and foster important dialogue at this critical juncture. In times of incredible strife in our society, we often turn to the arts as an avenue to learn, enrich, and galvanize action. At O Cinema, we believe films have the power to change communities and change lives.Starting this Sunday, O Cinema and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will work with Magnolia Pictures to make the documentaries I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO (June 7th), WHOSE STREETS? (June 14th) and TONI MORRISON: THE PIECES I AM available for FREE across eight of the Knight Foundation’s communities. These three films speak powerfully to systemic inequality and serve as blueprints for effecting change. Community partners in each city (which include Akron, Charlotte, Detroit, Macon, Miami, Philadelphia, San Jose, and St. Paul) will host virtual discussions about ways to support social justice and anti-racism in their communities. The films are being made possible thanks to the support of Knight Foundation, which has generously agreed to cover the rental fees for viewers. Each film will be made available to view each Sunday, for FREE, during a 24-hour window. Please register in advance to watch I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO by filling out a quick form to receive a secure link and password to view the film. The email with link and password will arrive in your inbox each Sunday at 1:00pm (EST).

I Can’t Believe What You Say Because I See What You Do: Observations on SolidarityOne of the most highly debated aspects of the growing national discourse on anti-racism and police brutality is solidarity. How best to practice it. How to spot performative solidarity. Join Maven Leadership Collective as we use the James Baldwin documentary “I’m Not Your Negro” to frame a much broader conversation on identity, community, and accountability.Panelists:Jasmen Rogers-Shaw (she/her), Founder, Folding Chair ConsultingDaniel J.
