MBC Interactive Archive Project:“AMERICAN INDIE DEBUTS OF THE 1980s”(Presented by the Miami Beach Film Society)An imaginary time capsule vision of 1980s Americana, Talking Heads band leader David Byrne’s only feature film showcases his personal wit and stylistic detail. Much like an extended music video but with a sophisticated narrative and sly sense of humor True Stories is a version of history that fits right in with today’s fake news, based on tabloid headlines of the day. As innocent bystander but all-knowing narrator, Byrne gives us a tour of small town America (“Virgil, Texas”) illustrating his now iconic songs.
