Overview
The latest film from acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, CHALLENGERS) is wildly ambitious, gorgeously rendered adaptation of the famed novel by William S. Burroughs, starring Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman.
William Lee (Craig), an American expat, writer and habitual heroin user in early-1950’s Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small gay American community who have found freedom there. When a young and enigmatic former solider named Eugene Allerton (Starkey), new to the city, catches Lee’s eye, he swoons into a headlong long affair, showing him, for the first time, that it might finally be possible to establish an intimate connection with someone. Brilliantly evoking the iconoclastic atmosphere of Burroughs’ novel, Queer is a dazzling, universal love story featuring expressionistic flights of fancy, psychedelic surrealism and surprising tenderness.
