Overview
Join us to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Emma Seligman’s debut feature, SHIVA BABY! Featuring a pre-recorded Q&A with director Emma Seligman and star Rachel Sennott, recorded live at the Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles on July 3rd, 2023.
A near college graduate, Danielle (Rachel Sennott), gets paid by her older lover/sugar daddy, Max, and rushes to meet her neurotic parents at a family shiva. Upon arrival, she is accosted by various estranged relatives about her appearance and lack of post-grad plans, while her confident ex-girlfriend, Maya (Molly Gordon), is applauded by everyone for getting into law school. Danielle’s day takes an unexpected turn when Max shows up with his accomplished wife, Kim, and crying baby. As the day unfolds, secrets and shames are unearthed as Danielle struggles to keep up different versions of herself, fend off pressures from her family, and confront her insecurities without completely losing it.
Winner of the Grand Jury Award for Best Screenplay at Outfest, SHIVA BABY is a hilariously sharp and biting comedy that celebrates the humorous possibilities of discomfort and practically redefines the word “awkward.”
